New email format

As the North Santiam Watershed Councils develops a larger following, we are expanding our capacity for outreach.  One component of this includes the adoption of an email list serve, similar to those of larger organizations.  You will be able to subscribe, unsubscribe, access email archives, and invite other members via our website at http://www.nsantiamwatershed.org/public_html/dadamail/mail.cgi .

Depending on your email program, you may have to add council@nsantiamwatershed.org as a safe sender or change your spam settings on your email account to ensure that you continue to receive the NSWC emails.

Calapooia-Santiam Regional Partnership

The Calapooia, South Santiam and North Santiam Watershed Councils developed a partnership with Meyer Memorial Trust and Bonneville Environmental Foundation to model a collaborative approach between regional watershed councils in developing and implementing an adaptive restoration strategy. The Calapooia, North Santiam, and South Santiam Watershed Councils began exploring partnership opportunities four years ago to expand our capacities while recognizing an economy of scales where our work overlaps. As we learn more about each others’ councils and watersheds, our reasoning for partnering is reaffirmed.  The Santiam and Calapooia Watersheds have similar landscapes, land uses and stakeholders; and our priority habitat concerns, species and watershed processes that require restoration are also similar.  Our Watershed Councils’ views on natural resource management and conservation coincide.

In the North Santiam Watershed, project recruitment and planning is underway on Stout Creek, Snake-Deford Creeks and Bear Branch.  If you are interested in learning more about these projects or would like to learn how to start a project, contact the Council at council@nsantiamwatershed.org or 503-930-8202.  Or come to the Regional Watershed Partnership meeting on Thursday March 11 at 6:30 PM in the Stayton Community Center for a potluck and discussion on upcoming projects.

Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District 2010 Native Plant Workshop Series

The Marion SWCD will be holding a series of 4 evening workshops in partnership with Polk Soil and Water Conservation District.  Each workshop will have a different theme.   The workshops will be every other Thursday in January and February from 6:00-8:00pm.  The workshops are free and open to the public; however, we ask that you please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Marion-Polk Foodshare.  Please RSVP at least two days before each workshop, call: 503-391-9927.  See http://marionswcd.net/  for more information.

New Web Page Design

As of Fall 2009, the North Santiam Watershed Council’s web page has undergone a significant renovation!  Resources for council members, landowners, and basic information about the Council and the watershed can be found at www.nsantiamwatershed.org.  As the model watershed work progresses, information will be added to that page as well, hosted by the NSWC.  A Google Earth virtual tour of the Watershed is available, taking you from the headwaters to the Pacific Ocean.  As you browse the web page, please provide us with any feedback you have regarding the functionality, content, or structure of the site.
